By Ludwig’s Corner Fire Company
December 2, 2023

On Saturday, December 2nd, LCFC had a busy day for its volunteers. In the morning 10 members took Engine 73-1 and Engine 73-5 and traveled to Chester County Public Safety Training Campus to conduct a drill with our mutual aid companies from Twin Valley Fire Department, Ridge Fire Company and Kimberton Fire Company. This drill consisted of several “calls for service” including automatic alarms, car fires, trash fires and building fires.

While that crew was training another crew was helping setup and participating in our annual Cookies with Santa Event. This was a successful event, and we want to thank all of our community members who came out for this annual event!

Throughout the day, LCFC Fire and QRS members responded to five calls for service in our local. Around 7:43 a.m., the company was dispatched for a trees and wires call in the area of Conestoga and Fairview Roads in East Nantmeal Township. Deputy 73 and Brush 73 arrived to find a tree that had fallen onto the wires bringing them down. The company cleared a short time later.

Around 11:00 a.m., the company was dispatched to an auto accident in the area of Conestoga Road and Moores Road in East Nantmeal Township. Deputy 73 and Rescue 73 arrived and found 1 vehicle that left the roadway and struck a tree. Crews assisted MICU 2-87 and MICU 87-1 which patient packaging as well as hazard mitigation. Crews cleared a short time later.

At 1:10 p.m., the company was again dispatched to the area of Conestoga Road and Moores Road for an auto accident, this time reported with entrapment. MICU 2-87 was returning from transporting a patient from the earlier accident and arrived on scene shortly after the accident occurred. The crew from MICU 2-87 reported one vehicle overturned, with heavy entrapment of two individuals. While enroute, Deputy 73 requested Rescue 69 be added to this call. Deputy 73 arrived and established Conestoga Road Command. Upon arrival of Rescue 73, the crew was instructed to stabilize the vehicle and to use the hydraulic rescue tools to "flap the roof". The crew from Rescue 73 immediately went to work stabilizing the vehicle and began the extrication process. Brush 73 arrived a short time after, and the crew assisted with the extrication. Crews worked relentlessly to remove the roof to allow EMS access to the vehicle. The crew from Rescue 69 arrived and assisted with the extrication and patient packaging. One occupant was removed from the vehicle and transporting to the hospital and the dog in the vehicle was rescued and turned over the SPCA. Unfortunately, one other individual in the vehicle succumbed to the injuries sustained in the crash. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of this individual. Crews remained on scene for nearly 5 hours before the roadway was finally reopened.

During that afternoon and evening, our QRS members responded to a medical emergency in West Vincent Township and crews also handled a small trash fire on Augusta Drive in West Vincent Township.
